Carpet Cleaners
We love living in a clean house, free of dust and any annoying debris or stain that may harm not only the appearance but also our health. There are lots of amazing house cleaning tools or appliance that we can rely on too besides the vacuum as well and for those with lots of carpet flooring in the house, having a carpet cleaner is almost like a must. Vacuum cleaners only can’t get into the carpet fabric especially if there are embedded dirt or stain.
Carpet cleaners is very similar to vacuum cleaners however with the addition of liquid cleaner or water to help removing the stain or embedded dirt. They have a vacuum suction as well to suck the water mixed with debris which is why they will have a water tank to contain the dirty water. Another similar part is the scrubbing motion. Almost all vacuum cleaners including robot vacuums such as Roborock S6 Pure Vs S6 Max have a moving brush to agitate the surface of your carpet.
In a carpet cleaner this motion is even more prominent and they are powered directly to help removing the dirt or stain. Since the usage is on soft flooring, there is no need to worry about it may scratch your tile or laminated floor but, always check the rug manufacturer first and whether or not they are suitable with carpet cleaner because delicate carpet may need different treatment that a regular carpet cleaners can’t provide for it being too harsh.
Unlike a robot vacuum that also mop, we can use various cleaning solution on the water tank. Most companies seems to only allow the carpet cleaner to use their own solution so make sure to check the compatibility as it may void the warranty. This solution can help a lot in removing stain or dirt or removing the odor, especially useful if you have pets like cats or dogs in the house. They also available in various options to match with the need around the house.
Depending on what carpet cleaner that you are getting, some of them may also be able to heat up the water or release steam to help the carpet to dry faster. However, not all of them will come with such functionalities and it is also different from floor sanitizer which is always coming with the steam function. To make the carpet cleaner more effective, the suction strength should be powerful enough to take most of the water from the carpet.

About Bissell ProHeat 2X and Rug Doctor
If you are here then we assume that a carpet cleaner is a must have and we do think they are very useful as well. They are very affordable depending on what model you want to buy but typically they will be heavier than an upright vacuum, moreover with the water tank filled so it can be quite tiring to work on a large space at once. However, they are extremely helpful to clean stain and a piece of carpet when needed, best when the stain is still fresh.
Just like with vacuum cleaners, there are so many good options out there that you may like better whether it is for the popularity or the price point. For a home use, they are usually around $200-$300 depending on the brand and model to choose. Among those, Bissell and Rug doctor are probably two of the most well-known brands in the market. They carry buyer’s favorite both for the price point and for the high-quality cleaners that are also working really well for home use.
The favorites are Bissell ProHeat 2X and Rug Doctor, specifically the Deep Carpet Cleaner which are not only affordable but also surprisingly very reliable for embedded dirt and stain. These carpet cleaners are the choice of many when they are looking for an easy to use appliance to complement the main vacuum cleaner. In terms of mechanism they are similar to most cleaners out there and the performance are actually very good too, even though they are not perfect or the most powerful among all.
However, in comparison they are also not identical and personally we prefer the ProHeat 2X for its ease of use despite how we love the Rug Doctor convenience out of the box, this cleaner is awkward to use, moreover if you are used to other cleaners in the past. Side by side, you can do the same task with both Bissell ProHeat 2X and Rug Doctor but for those who are eyeing them to find something that can also produce heat on its own, we highly recommend to look further.
Bissell ProHeat 2X and Rug Doctor Design
Before checking what the cleaners can offer, let’s see the unit first. Usually when it comes to vacuum cleaners or carpet cleaners they will be shipped in a box and in a form of semi-kit with separate parts that we need to assemble. Uniquely, Rug Doctor comes almost ready to use while the Bissell comes in the main housing with water canister, the handle, and hose. You will have to put everything together but we do get the solutions in the box as well from both brands.
Build quality wise we do think the Bissell ProHeat 2X and Rug Doctor are standard and robust. They are made of thick plastic. The tank on both cleaners are claimed to hold approximately a gallon of water but we are unsure about the exact capacity. In addition to floor cleaning, you will get upholstery tool as well to reach the above-floor area such as furniture, stairs, or the pet’s bed. It is very convenient and easy to use.
Bissell ProHeat 2X and Rug Doctor for Deep Cleaning
Now for the most important part, let’s see what Bissell ProHeat 2X and Rug Doctor can offer starting from the performance part. In this part both of them are very reliable but it seems they are also powerful enough to take up the water from the surface. In comparison the ProHeat 2X is able to clean the medium sized carpet at one pass only since the second try gives you a much cleaner water. Rug Doctor is also very powerful but we need to give it two swipe.
In addition the water tank seems to be quite small on both machines so we may need to refill it for one or more in most cases. The two can remove the odor and embedded really well but we also highly recommend to vacuum the rug first before cleaning further because it is more effective this way, especially if you have pets that often shed in the house.
Bissell ProHeat 2X and Rug Doctor for Stain Removal
Next is for the stain removal with Bissell ProHeat 2X and Rug Doctor which is also very similar to each other. We don’t think they can work with highly pigmented material such as wine, ink, or mustard because when dried they are very difficult to remove without pretreating. But, both are working really well with animal mess like urine along with the odor. They are very reliable as well to remove coffee stain even after left after a while and in general, for highly pigmented liquid we advise to act as fast as you can to remove it much more effectively.
Bissell ProHeat 2X and Rug Doctor Experience
Lastly we want to talk about the experience while using these carpet cleaners because they are very different here. We have mentioned that Rug Doctor is not as convenient and this is because the cleaners is strangely operated backward instead of back and forth like most cleaners including Bissell. It also suck a lot of water but the water tank is small and a bit awkward to fill for the inconvenient design so chances you will need to refill it more than once even for a medium sized carpet.
In terms of ease of use we do think ProHeat 2X is the better here. It is more thoughtful at least with an easy to navigate and maneuver design as well as properly placed water trigger. The water tank is also easy to fill with the included solution from Bissell.
Bissell Proheat 2X vs Rug Doctor
Both Bissell ProHeat 2X and Rug Doctor are good options which is very reliable for the performance. They will most likely produce the same result but we like the ease of use of Bissell because it is more convenient. The cleaners design allowed it to be pushed forward instead of just backward. We also need to fill the water tank less often and in addition the water tank design is much better for ease of filling. However, out of the box the Rug Doctor require the less assembly.
Conclusion
You can choose any of the two based on which seems to fit you the most but in comparison we highly recommend getting the ProHeat 2X because it is not only effective in deep cleaning but also easy to use or more convenient.
